Article #3: Die Fünfte Jahreszeit (due Thursday, February 9, 2012)

For your third analysis, you will be spending more time looking at information and thinking about what the cultural significance of the "season" is and less time writing. Be sure to look at a wide variety of images, videos, websites and to try to find out the differences about how this is celebrated within the German speaking world. 

Begin with thees websites, which give a concise summary of what Die fünfte Jahreszeit is and how it is celebrated throughout the German speaking world.

Writing Assignment:

I.  Select a series of images to upload to your blog.  Be sure to include a link to the the site where you found the image:
          A. a float from a parade
          B. an individual man, woman or child taking part in the celebration
          C. one other image that you think provides insight into the cultural meaning
              of the "season."

II. Address the following items in your written analysis. The work count for this posting is significantly smaller.  You will need to write 200-300 words in your analysis of Die fünfte Jahreszeit and provide citation information for the images you upload.
          A.   describe the cultural aspect in your article
          B.  compare/contrast the information with the U.S. and/or your expectations.
                If something surprised you, include that as well with an explanation of
                why you were surprised.
          C.   evaluate the cultural importance in terms of what you know about culture
                 in the German-speaking world, and how it either did or did not change
                 your perceptions.
          D.  hypothesize what the floats might look like in this year's celebration later
                this month.
